The thing most coverage of Rockstar's October 8 reveal got slightly wrong is that Bad Bunny is not hosting a station in GTA 6. El Martillo is. The GTA 6 radio hosts are written characters with their own names, played by real performers, which is a different proposition from the celebrity DJ cameos the series has run on for twenty years.
That distinction is the most interesting thing in the reveal, and it is worth laying out properly, because the persona names carry information the performer names do not.
Every named persona, and who plays them
| Station | Persona | Performer |
|---|---|---|
| Cocoteo FM | El Martillo | Bad Bunny |
| Cocoteo FM | La Gata | RaiNao |
| Back Country Radio | MW | Morgan Wallen |
| Back Country Radio | Delta Dawne | Lana Del Rey |
| Back Country Radio | Mud Dog Mike | Jeremy Dufrene |
| AfroBank FM | Burna | Burna Boy |
| AfroBank FM | Palmsy | DJ Palms Trax |
| The Chamber 106.6 | DJ Kerry | Kerry King |
| The Chamber 106.6 | DJ Tom | Tom Araya |
| Flash FM | Robyn | Robyn |
| Flash FM | Alex | Alex Consani |
| Dirty South Classics | Trick | Trick Daddy |
| Dirty South Classics | Trina | Trina |
Thirteen named voices across six stations, and the pattern in that table is the story.
Three different degrees of fiction
Read down the persona column and the casting splits into tiers.
Fully in-character. El Martillo ("the hammer") and La Gata ("the cat") are invented radio names of the sort real Latin radio actually uses, and they tell you nothing about who is behind the microphone. Delta Dawne is a constructed country-radio persona. Mud Dog Mike is the most committed of the lot. These are characters.
Abbreviated or nicknamed. MW, Burna, Palmsy, DJ Kerry, DJ Tom, Trick. The performer is recognisable but filtered through the kind of shortening a real on-air name goes through.
Themselves. Robyn, Alex, Trina.
Rockstar did not standardise this, and the inconsistency looks deliberate rather than careless. Bad Bunny playing a character gives the writers room to put words in El Martillo's mouth that Bad Bunny would never say. Trina being Trina on a station called Dirty South Classics does the opposite job: it lends the format authenticity, because Trina genuinely is Southern rap history. Different stations needed different things, and the casting was built per station.
Mud Dog Mike is the one to watch
Mud Dog Mike is the only named host without a station-hosting role. Rockstar describes him as "roving reporter, swamp meteorologist, and Delta's not-so-secret lover," and he is played by Jeremy Dufrene, who is Lana Del Rey's husband and, in real life, an alligator tour guide in Louisiana.
That is a casting joke with three layers: the real-life swamp guide plays a fictional swamp meteorologist, filing reports to a station hosted by his real-life wife playing a fictional country DJ who is secretly involved with him. It is also a roster slot that implies segments rather than links, because a roving reporter has to go somewhere and come back with something. Back Country Radio looks less like a playlist with chat over it and more like a show with a cast.
Why pairs?
Every station revealed has two hosts. None has one. That is a clean break from how GTA has cast radio: Kenny Loggins alone on Los Santos Rock Radio in GTA 5, Iggy Pop alone on Liberty Rock Radio in GTA 4, Toni alone on the 1986 Flash FM.
A solo host talks at you. A pair talks to each other, which means the writing can carry relationships, running arguments and jokes that develop over a playthrough, exactly the structure that morning radio uses in the real world. Combined with the on-demand podcasts Rockstar announced in the same update, it reads as a studio investing in radio as written content rather than licensed music with links between the tracks. Our DJ history piece covers how far that departs from series precedent.
What is still unknown
- How much dialogue each persona has. Unstated.
- Whether any radio host appears as an on-screen character. Unstated, and GTA has done this before: Lazlow appeared in person in GTA 5.
- Whether these personas interact with the story. Nothing confirmed. The confirmed supporting cast, including Boobie Ike's move into the music industry, sits adjacent to the music world, but Rockstar has drawn no link.
- Who hosts the unannounced Classic Rock and Talk Radio stations. Not revealed.
- Whether any podcast has a host. Not revealed.

The Bottom Line
Rockstar cast thirteen performers and gave most of them someone else to be. That is the detail worth holding onto from the October 8 station reveal: not the famous names, which are a marketing asset, but the fact that the names were turned into characters with nicknames, relationships and, in Mud Dog Mike's case, a job title that implies a whole segment format. GTA radio has always been written well and heard in fragments. This looks like a studio that decided to do something about the second half of that sentence.
